Job Description
Purpose of the role
To partner with the bank, providing independent assessment of control processes and advising on improvements to ensure the efficiency and effectiveness of the bank's internal controls framework.
Accountabilities
- Collaborate across the bank to maintain a satisfactory, robust, and efficient control environment through ad-hoc assessments and testing on the design and operational effectiveness of internal controls, aligned to control policies and standards.
- Develop detailed test plans and procedures to identify weaknesses in internal controls and other initiatives aligned to the bank's control framework to mitigate potential risks and issues, prioritised by severity.
- Communicate key findings and observations to relevant stakeholders and business units to improve overall control efficiency and provide corrective actions to senior managers.
- Collaborate with other control professionals to resolve complex issues and ensure consistent testing methodologies across the bank.
- Develop a knowledge center containing detailed documentation of control assessments, findings, and testing on design and operational effectiveness to train and upskill colleagues within the bank.

Key Accountabilities
- Liaise with stakeholders across the three Lines of Defence to ensure efforts are aligned and complementary.
- Review activities undertaken by management to remediate control gaps and provide opinions on risk mitigation and control sustainability.
- Identify and leverage appropriate data sources and data analytical techniques for targeted testing.
- Support the implementation of the Functions Controls Assurance strategy to drive global consistency and improvements in risk awareness and risk management capability by developing close relationships with key stakeholders.
- Maintain an independent perspective, challenging as required and setting out quantified control options and risk decision recommendations.
Stakeholder Management and Leadership
- Maintain proactive relationships with a selection of stakeholders including but not limited to Business stakeholders (Process and control owners), SOX teams, Barclays Internal Audit, External Auditor, and Group Finance.

- Work simultaneously on multiple activities, tracking actions and driving delivery.

- Awareness of Risk and Control
- Understanding of control testing

- Analytical approach and proven ability to manage issues through to resolution
- Strong interpersonal skills and effective communication across a global team
- Ability to multitask and complete assignments with varying lead times

Essential Skills/Basic Qualifications:
- Knowledge of Controls and Analytical approach to problem-solving
Desirable Skills/Preferred Qualifications:
- Relevant academic qualifications (Bachelor's degree in Commerce or equivalent qualification)
- Knowledge of process re-engineering e.g., LEAN / DMAIC / Value Mapping (beneficial, not essential)
- Knowledge of Functional and Operational risks
- Knowledge of data analytics tools and techniques
- Knowledge of Project Management and Change Management, proven through a relevant professional qualification e.g., Prince2, Project Management Institution (beneficial, not essential)
